7. Geography: the land in detail
Built Geography and Polity Module – Specification §1; Landmarks and Water Features – Specification §1.
Zones from a lattice of 25 km² tiles in 15 kinds of ground; rivers divide the ground; barrier zones; habitability; subzones. Unchanged from version 1.
Landmarks (landmarksOf), built: peaks, volcanoes (active or dormant, with hot springs and geysers), great rivers, deltas, waterfalls, gorges, great and salt lakes, glaciers, cave systems (karst and lava tubes), craters (the system’s impacts that fell on land within the age of the surface: the large and the recent kept, the old worn away, then kept or lost by rain and relief), straits, bays, great deserts and plains. Each has a hazard (what it can do to the people about it) and an awe (how likely a people is to hold it sacred), which religion and myth read.
Natural disasters acting on peoples, built in the culture module: eruptions, earthquakes, floods and storms by the ground (section 12).
Still to build Names of landmarks, and land bridges
Landmarks are not yet named. Land bridges and migration barriers are used in the history of life but not labelled on the map. Sea-floor features (trenches, seamounts) are zones of the sea but not landmarks.
