4. Cosmic foundations: the star system
Built Solar System Module – Specification §2–8, §13; Additions §2–3.
| WT asks for | Demiurge gives |
|---|---|
| Star class, mass, luminosity, age | mass (preset, typed, or drawn from an initial mass function), class O–M with subclasses, radius, temperature, lifetime, brightening with age |
| Effects on radiation | X-ray and UV history, flares, magnetic shielding |
| Planets | architecture presets, spacing in mutual Hill radii, masses against the frost line, radius from composition, eccentricity, inclination, class |
| The habitable planet | habitable zone √(L/1.1)–√(L/0.53); Earth-like as physics decides, guaranteed, excluded, or at a chosen probability |
| Gas giants' influence | wide gaps, a longer bombardment, the asteroid belt |
| Moons and tides | regular, giant-impact and captured moons; tides; eclipses; tidal heating; tilt held by a large moon |
| Day, year, tilt, eccentricity | rotation, locking, solar day, tilt by what holds it, longitude of perihelion, seasons by latitude |
| Minor objects (BWM) | belts, dwarf planets, a comet-cloud flag |
| The cloud | metallicity and the elements that control giants, water, density, heat and the elements of life |
| Moons in culture and myth (WT) | built: the sky as a people sees it (sun, moons, eclipses, seasons, comets, omens), a role and eclipse myth for each moon in each religion (section 12; Lore §4–5) |
Impacts from the system itself
Impacts (src/solar-system/impacts.ts, data/impacts.json), built 20 October (Decisions Log §38): impacts belong to the solar-system model and are worked out when the system is generated. One schedule per system (StarSystem.impacts), drawn from the seed: each rocky world’s rate comes from the system’s belts (their mass and their dwarf planets, by the nearness of their orbit to the world’s), the comet cloud and the Kuiper-type belts, the giants (which stir the belts and scatter comets inwards, or shield the worlds within them; a giant migrated inwards stirs the belts late, a late heavy bombardment), and the world’s own orbit and size; the rate declines over time and the sizes follow a power law (many small, few great). The Solar System is the yardstick, so a world in a system like ours is struck as the Earth is and one in a system with no belt far less; the model without small bodies takes the Solar System’s supply. Everything reads that one record: the history of life (its mass extinctions), the map’s craters (the large and the recent kept, the old worn away), the moons (their scars, MoonBody.scars), the aether (its chaos), the lore (the falling star), the history of the system (the great impacts as events) and the wiki’s cosmos page. Every number is a proposal. Impacts in the culture history are not built (undecided); the aether crystals of the moons are not yet tied to the scars.
Still to build Binary stars, rings, resonances inside the systems (in part)
The arithmetic is built (Additions §3): a star’s companion (mass, period, separation, eccentricity), the stable orbits round one star or both (Holman and Wiegert), a second sun in the sky; rings of giants; resonances and hints of migration. None is yet inside the systems makeSystem makes, because planet generation does not know about a second star. Evolution beyond the main sequence is not modelled.
